Privacy Policy
Boutabyte is the personal site of Dallas Wauters: writing, project notes, and the services I offer. There are no user accounts. The only thing you can sign up for is the Boutabyte News mailing list, and only if you choose to. This page describes exactly what the site collects, which is very little, and what happens to it.

What this site collects
There are three places you can hand over information, and all of them are things you choose to fill in. Separately, the site counts visits with Google Analytics, described below.
The contact form
If you send a message through the contact page, it records the name, email address, service, budget and message you entered. It is stored so I can read it and reply, and a copy is emailed to me. Nothing more is attached to it.
The mailing list
If you subscribe, it records your email address, the name you gave if you gave one, and which part of the site you subscribed from. It is used to send you Boutabyte News (every two weeks) and new posts, and nothing else. You only get it if you subscribe. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes you off the list immediately.
Topic suggestions
If you suggest a newsletter topic, it records your email address, the name you gave if you gave one, and the topic and details you wrote. A copy is emailed to me so I can consider it for the newsletter and, if it sounds like something I can help with, reply to you directly. If you then opt in to a custom newsletter, it also records the topics you picked and adds you to the mailing list.
Visit statistics
The site uses Google Analytics to see which pages and posts people read. It records things like the pages visited, how you arrived (a search, a link or directly), your approximate location, and your device and browser type. It sets cookies in your browser so a return visit can be told apart from a new one. I use it to learn what is useful and what is not, and nothing more.
You can block it with your browser's cookie or tracking settings, or with Google's opt-out browser add-on. The site works the same either way.
What this site does not do
Worth stating plainly, because most sites cannot:
- No ad tracking. Apart from Google Analytics above, there is no tag manager, no advertising pixels and no other third-party tracking scripts.
- No advertising, and nothing sold or shared. Your details are never passed to anyone for marketing, and there is no data broker in the middle.
- No accounts, no payments. There are no user accounts and no checkout. The only signup is the optional mailing list, and the only login is my own, for editing the site.
- Minimal cookies. Google Analytics sets cookies to count visits. The only other cookie is the session for my own admin login, which never applies to you.
Who else touches it
Running a site means a few companies handle data on my behalf. These are all of them:
- Supabase stores the site's content and the things you fill in above.
- Resend delivers email: the copies of contact messages and topic suggestions sent to me, and the newsletter.
- Google runs Google Analytics, which processes the visit statistics described above.
- Netlify hosts the site. Like any web host it keeps ordinary server logs, which include visitors' IP addresses, for a short period.
Each of them has its own privacy policy covering what it does with what it holds. I do not give your information to anyone else.
How long it is kept
Contact messages are kept while they are useful to the conversation and deleted once they are not. Mailing list entries are kept until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed. There is no automatic expiry beyond that, and no archive of either kept elsewhere.
Asking me to change or delete it
Email info@boutabyte.com and ask. You can ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. I will do it regardless of where you live, and I am not going to make you prove anything first. It is a small site and this is a short job.
Security, honestly
Content and form submissions sit behind authentication and row-level security rules in Supabase, and the site is served over HTTPS. That is a reasonable standard for what this holds, which is your name and email address if you chose to send them. It is not a vault, so please do not put anything sensitive in a contact form message.
Changes to this page
If what the site collects changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. There is no version of this where the site quietly starts doing more and the policy stays as it was.
